A History Lesson

This was just sent in to the Daily Collegian in response to Alex Muller's editorial:

This is directed to Alex Muller.

Over 450 years before the crusaders entered Jerusalem, Mohammed said this, "Accept Islam and you will be safe."

632: Mohammed Dies

634: Sophronius makes a Christmas sermon complaining of the Moslems' "savage, barbarous and bloody sword" and how difficult that sword has made life for Christians.

638: The Moslems sack Jerusalem. This marks the begining of centuries of Moslem aggression, and Christians in the Holy Land faced an escalating spiral of persecution.

Early in the 8th Century, sixty Christian pilgrims from Amorium were crucified; around the same time, the Moslem Governor of Caesara seized a group of pilgrims from Iconium and had them all executed as spies-except for the small number of them that converted to Islam. Moslems also threaten to ransack the Church of the Resurrection if they didn't pay them money. Later in the 8th century, a Moslem ruler banned the display of the cross in Jerusalem. He also increased the anti-religious tax (jizya) that Christians had to pay and forbade them from instructing their faith, even to their own children.

772: The Caliph Mansur ordered the hands of Christians and Jews to be stamped with a distinctive symbol (Hitler?). Conversions TO Christianity were dealt with harshly; In 789, Moslems beheaded a monk that had converted from Islam and plundered the Bethlehem monastery of Saint Theodosius, killing many more of its monks. Many more suffered that fate.

Early in the 9th century, persecutions grew so severe that large number of Christians fled their home lands to Constantinople and other Christian.

923: Additional churches were destroyed.

937: Moslems go on a Palm Sunday rampage in Jerusalem, plundering and destroying the Church of Calvary and the Church of the Resurrection.

In Islamic theology, if any land has ever belonged to the House of Islam, it belongs to it forever - and Moslems must wage war to regain control over it.

974: Faced with a string of losses to the Byzantines, who had recalimed some of their territories back from the Moslems, the Sunni Calip in Baghdad declared Jihad.

1004: Shi'ite Caliph Adu 'Ali al-Mansur al-Hakim turned violently against the faith of his mother and uncles (two of whom were patriarchs), ordering the destruction of churches, the burning of crosses, and the seizure of Church property. He moved against the Jews wth similar ferocity. Over the next ten years, THIRTY THOUSAND churches were destroyed, and untold numbers of Christians converted to Islam simply to save their lives.

1009: al-Hakim gave his most spectacular anti-Christian order: He commanded that the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem be destroyed, along with several other churches (including the Church of the Resurrection). The Church of the Holy Sepulcher, rebuilt by the Byzantines in the 7th century after the Persians burned an earlier version, marks the traditional site of Christ's burial; it also served as a model for the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Al-Hakim commanded that the tomb within be cut down to the bedrock. He order Christians wear heavy crosses around their necks and for jews, a heavy block of wood in the shape of a calf. His last order was to accept Islam or leave his dominions, which were conquered Christian and Jewish lands.

The Byzantines rebuilt the Church of the Holy Sepulcher after al-Hakim had vanished, which is included in the story that started the sect called Druze. Nevertheless, in 1056, the Muslims expelled 300 Christians from Jerusalem and forbad european Christians from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the most holy of sites for Christians, taken over by the Moslems.

The Moslem Seljuk Turks swept down from Central Asia enforcing new Islamic rigor on the people, and in 1071 chrushed the Byzantines at Manzikert, taking the emperor Romanus IV prisoner.

1076: The Seljuk Turks conquered Syria.

1077: The Seljuk Turks conquered Jerusalem, promising not to harm the inhabitants. Once the Turks entered the city, 3000 people were murdered.

The Christian Byzantium empire, which before Islam's bloody wars of conquest, which were started by its founder, had ruled over a vast expanse including southern Italy, North Africa, the Middle East and Arabia. Now their lands were reduced to little more than Greece. It looked as if its death at the hands of the Moslems was imminent. The Church of Constantinople considered the popes schismatic and had squabbled with them for centuries, but the new emperor Alexius I Comenus, swallowed his pride and appealed for help.

And that is how the First Crusade came about: It was in response to the Byzantine Emperor's call for help.

Mohammed is the first founder of a religion to see his religion spread...and he did it with the sword and commands it to be spread by the sword by all those who embrace Islam.

A history lesson, Alex.

(Sources are mainly R. Spencer and his sources)

I do not like it when people, who are in a position of power, choose to skew history and facts by presenting them off-handed like Alex Muller. It is a serious flaw in journalism and clearly a serious flaw in his character.

Well Sir, I think you make an excellent point. What Alex is misunderstanding is that the Crusades were in fact reactionary to the Muslim's aim of domination.

A further history lesson...and more importantly, the one that in the opinion of any educated person trying to chip in on this conversation; Crusades were in response to the ongoing Muslim war. Have you ever heard of the Conquest?

The Conquest of the Iberian peninsula began in the early 8th century. The Visigoths, an early Christian peoples, inhabitated the area we now know as Portugal, Spain and France. Quite peaceful people, they lived in harmony with Jews and Moors alike. It all started when Tariq ibn Zayid on orders of the Umayyad Caliphate of Damascus crossed the Straight of Gibraltar from Morroco with his armies. Their goal was simple, to take the lands and convert the captured. Within fourteen years, the Muslim armies controlled all of the lands of the peninsula, save a small land in the north, the Basque Country.

Sure, Christians have been known to convert, but I do not recall it being violent in any way. These Muslims forced conversion on their Jew and Christian counterparts. If they did not convert, they were forced to pay a tax and conceal their true religious faith and if they chose neither...death. And if they did decide to pay their "faith tax" they were considered less than human. They were not given jobs or any position short of cleaning shit from stables.

As a result of this Christian population being forced into a small area in Northwest Spain, they had no choice but to fight back. Fight for life, liberty and some of those other things that people like Alex seem to have taken for granted in an era where it is better to be politically correct than safe. Had it not been for Charles Martel and his fellow soldiers to rise up against their opressors at the Battle of Covadonga, Muslim aggression and domination would have spread completely throughout Europe.
Thus began the Christian Reconquista, (Reconquest) or what little does anyone know as...the first true Crusade.

Now before you get all sentimental and feel sorry because a few bad eggs have spoiled it for the whole, you need to realize that segregating the two is pointless. Their thirst for power, domination, and rise of the "one true God" is at the top of their priority. They do not want peace, they want everyone to assimilate and "be like them."

And if anyone reads this, someone tell that kid that the paper is not a public service announcement forum for liberal bitches. If a person has the audacity to speak out without knowing the truth or facts or being remotely informed, shame on them. However, we don't need Donnie Do Gooder to tell everyone to be informed and shit when he is a victim of the hypocrisy he himself is...crusading to end.

Fuck...

I couldn't have said it better myself. Literally....I don't know too much about the Moslem conquest of the Iberian Penin.

What is important in distinguishing the spread of the Christian Faith is that the Christians were being killed while spreading the Word of God, while the Moslems were KILLING whilst spreading the Qur'an. Islam is the only religion that initally was spread by violence, and the only religion whose leader saw its spread in his own life....by the Sword of Mohammed, the Terrorist, The Menace, The Murderer, who follows the Qur'an.

I think Alex just has a problem with Jon. He says,"Be skeptical of everything. Do your research before you spout your mouth, or write a letter to the editor." I think he is calling you out. Maybe his girlfriend is a muslim and he's in the midst of his brainwashing...I mean converting. Cause that's something calm professional people don't write in a paper. He's being emotional for emphasis. I think he should take his own advice, obviously. I hope he chokes on his words whilst he eats them. (I am not a professional either) I am sick of hearing about all these people who don't see what is happening, and taking the easy road every time they are asked about a controversial situation. It's okay for people to not like you because you do/say what is right. You'll find that most of the time the hard way and the right way have alot in common. In other words someone tell this guy to stop being a pussy. There is currently a generation of men who were raised by women (with little to no strong male role model...or strong role model in general, male or female) coming of age and they will have a strong influence on the world. They are bending over backwards and "tippy-toeing" as to not hurt anyones feelings....If we continue with this bad habit the body of the USA will be so contorted and crippled it will fall to the ground under any pressure. (metaphorically speaking.....in case you didn't already know that.)I guess they just don't care about that. What a great selfless group of people....douchebags.

I don't know if he has a problem with me (I don't even know him, maybe he's seen me on the steps of Willard, but I am pretty sure he doesn't know me), per se, but he definitely has a problem with what I said. And that is perfectly fine. But what he did was retort with some unjustified propaganda, like a true liberal. His opinion will always be readily available because of his position within the Daily Collegian, and that is what I am most pissed about. He will be able to subjugate all of the idiots that go to PSU with his column, yet I know he won't print what I sent to him, the Truth. If he does print it, he's commended, but I doubt he will.

Also. If you are going to comment, please use a pen name, your real name, a nick name, anything that you will be able to use time and time again. Hell, even sign up. I would like to be able to identify who is saying what, to possible create somewhate of a community of people who want to talk about this stuff, NO MATTER WHAT SIDE OF THE ARGUMENT THEY ARE ON (I stress this becaus I WANT other people to post here). I am willing to even monitor and moderate an entire forum based on political discussions for people up here at PSU, or anywhere for that matter. But I have a very hard time getting the word out due to the lack of help from the Collegian and my large workload from classes and work. What the Collegian doesn't allow is everyone's opinions to be heard or at least stated where anyone can access them. I am willing to provide this.

Please leave that post up so everyone can see it. This illiterate piece of trash seems to think that bad language will win him an award. If you got your head out of your ass you wouldn't tell people like myself to "speak of what you know not" (that's like a bad movie quote) and then and ONLY THEN when you actually "seek the truth" will you be able to speak/write intelligently about ANY topic concerning political agenda...then I PROMISE, if you use proper language that everyone understands and learn something about punctuation, I will take your advice and look into any evidence you have provided. People like you say, "your beloved leader and main man bush is on the saudi leader's dick" when you spout this shit out like it's your favorite catch phrase it leads me to believe that you hate your life (and why not you sound like a douchebag) and want to blame it on someone else. Who better than the president? Everyone else who dislikes him seems to get a lot of media attention, and they're cool right???? Wrong... This page isn't for verbally slamming each other, though it is fun, it is for trying to understand. If there is anyone in this world who can explain to me WITH EVIDENCE (that doesn't have huge holes) that Islam is truly about unity and the followers of Islam don't yearn for world domination than please feel free. Be warned that there is a possibility someone might disagree with you and challenge your reasoning. They will give you a chance to explain your views and why you think they are right. So if you have a fear of rejection (or are just over emotional) just don't say anything that's fine, be a coward. If you have a brain and you want people to understand your point of view POST YOUR IDEAS not your silly commentary about what you think of the people who use this blog, please do.

Hello The Stranger,

Your message is almost like spam. A couple more swear word, or maybe a reference to a c0ck r1ng and some good stock options would have topped it off.

Whilst trudging through your obvious rancor and terrible grammar/punctuation, I came to a startling conclusion: You're a Muslim extremist. Which isn't very startling I guess, since anyone who reads and believes in the Qur'an and the counterpart Hadiths is an extremist.

Surprisingly though, I do agree with you about the Saudi's. Not about anything regarding the phallus, but that they are very responsible for a lot of the terrorism today. Along with Jordan, Iran, Syria, Iraq and the glue that holds them all together, The Nation of Islam.

Your initial sentence, "F*** the liberals, F*** the right wing" was a stupid comment to make. The left wing is the ally of Islam, your obvious Cult of Death. If I were you, I would make "friends" (I put that in quotes because it is illegal for a Moslem to truly make friends with a non-Moslem, even to the extreme that if your brother is friends with a non-moslem you are to behead him for his heresy) with as many liberal swines as I could, so you can further your slowly tightening grip on the minds of the sheeple here in America and subvert them to be the Enemy Within our borders, as so many of them already are.

I like your call-out against our Fascist Neo-conism and it's soon to be demise. I find it interesting that you use the word Fascism in the negative, considering its definition:
Fascism- a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.

That is the definition of a Muslim Theocracy headed by a Caliph. Is it not? Are you entirely sure you know your own religion, stranger?

What exactly are we close-minded about? (I think you meant to use "you're" instead of "your" by the way...does Islam teach you grammar?) I can only speak for myself, but I know all about Islam. I have spent the entire summer reading even more about it and getting to know its laws and its little idiosyncrasies, but more importantly, its history of the Bloddy Sword of Mohammed. I suspect, when you called us close-minded , that you meant we are not Moslems. You would have to kill me to convert me, and even then I would struggle eternally. For I will never be a part of Islam, I will never engage in it's blood thirsty doctrines. And I will forever be its aggressor until the people are keen to its murderous and hate-filled ways.

Have a good day. Come back if you want and post even more. It makes you look like an idiot. And try not to be so crass next time.

Doctor Awkward

Hey...it's me...Big Daddy...I took your advice and read your blog. Frustration at not having access to channels of communication has always been a struggle for those whose message upset the ones controlling those channels. But the real struggle is within. The real struggle is against the urge to stop writing because access is denied, to stop talking because noone listens, to stop caring when others hide in their own false comfort. You will not stop writing, talking and caring. I know that. The trick is to find effective ways to communicate when the usual avenues are closed. And I think you are doing that and will continue. Your real success is that you are not holed up in a cave with one thing on your mind. You are an advocate AND student, a student AND worker, a worker AND activist, an activist AND upstanding member of society. And soon, an electrical engineer. Your thoughts and words will fall on many deaf ears in the years ahead, your access to an audience will be denied many times throughout your life. But within, that thing in you that drives you, can never be extinguished. Signed, Big Daddy with Blue by my side.
